Very cool Sensible sad iron. I like the way that the handle attaches and detaches – it really holds the iron quite securely. This iron is about 6-1/2″ long and 3-1/2″ wide at its widest. The iron itself is ~1-3/4″ tall.
The iron is marked NEW SENSIBLE NO. 25. PAT. May 5 – 1908. MANF D BY C. I. CO. POTTSTOWN, PA. It is offered in “as found” vintage condition. Given that this is the “new” sensible iron, my presumption is that the other two Sensible irons I have listed were manufactured even earlier than this one.
You can read more about sad irons in this article in Collector’s Weekly. This iron would make a cool doorstop, paperweight, or display. You could also, of course, use it to iron. 🙂
