Limited quantity! These skillet racks are new; they have been crafted precisely to The Pan Handler’s specifications. We are very excited to be offering these quality pieces!
We got to thinking that it would be nice to have a display stand for our skillets, so that folks could show them off and not have them hidden away in their oven drawers, cupboards, or always sitting on the stove. We know that most cooks with vintage skillets don’t have every size, so we made the racks in sizes to fit some commonly-used pans.
We contracted with a manufacturer and are presently offering three different sizes of skillet racks, as well as a griddle rack. Each rack is very sturdy, made professionally, and powder coated with matte black. Each rack has 4 feet, covered by rubber bumpers.
This listing is for a 2-slot rack to hold the size 6 and 8, as well as other sizes. That means that I had this rack crafted to fit vintage skillets (Griswold skillets are used in the photos) in sizes 6 and 8,. (The skillet size is different from the size in diameter of the pan; the size of the cast iron skillet is typically stamped on the handle and / or on the bottom. If you take a look at the guide I wrote on selecting vintage cast iron skillets, it is explained a bit more thoroughly). As you can see in the photos, other sizes of skillets also fit in the slots of the rack. Skillets with heat rings also fit in the slots. I put the size of the skillet that is shown in the photos on a post-it note in the photo. All skillets shown are Griswold large block logo smooth bottom. The “play” of the skillet – and the amount it leans or stands straight – will be slightly different from size to size and manufacturer to manufacturer; each manufacturer created their cast iron skillets to their own measurements, though they are typically not substantially different.
This rack measures ~8″ long (measured at bottom foot to foot) and is ~6-3/4″ wide at its widest. There are two slots to hold skillets of different sizes. As you can see in the photos, the smallest pan fits in the narrowest and skinniest slot, with the other slot widening and deepening. The smallest slot is about 2″ deep, the largest is about 2-1/8″.
Take a look at your vintage cast iron inventory – especially your “users” – the ones you use most often – and then take a look at the photos for the racks I have listed. That will help you to make your decision as to which rack(s) you would like to order. All skillets in the photos are vintage Griswold large block logo with smooth bottom skillets.
Thanks for stopping and shopping!
