This is a fabulous piece and would be much loved by any cast iron aficionado. This is an authentic Griswold sun dial on a wooden base. It was manufactured by the Griswold Mfg. Co in Erie PA in the 1930’s. It is in fantastic condition!
The dial measures about 10-1/2″ in diameter. With base, it is about 11-1/2″ in diameter. The dial is marked on the bottom as shown in the photos: THE GRISWOLD MFG. CO ERIE PA., U.S.A. and the product number, which is 357. There are some areas of discoloration on the bottom as you can see in the photos. These are not seen when the dial is placed into the base (it presses into the opening in the wood).
The top of the dial has the clock in Roman numerals, and GROW OLD ALONG WITH ME THE BEST IS YET TO BE. The gnonom is intact. The piece is in fabulous condition; some slight and light areas of roughness as you can see in the photos.
Please take a good look at the photos. I took many photos in daylight so that you can carefully examine before making your purchase.
I cleaned the iron to bare metal and then coated it with a mixture of Pam and Crisco vegetable shortening to protect the finish.
(this will be a tricky one to pack!)
