Well, of course this lovely Santa would make an excellent holiday gift for the cake-baker, or collector. It is simply gorgeous.
This is an authentic Santa cake mold which was manufactured by the Griswold Manufacturing Company in the 1940’s and 1950’s. The Santa mold is a highly sought-after piece. There are many reproductions of the Griswold Santa out there; buyers need to take care that any Santa mold that they purchase is an authentic Griswold; this one is.
It is remarkable that the nickel plating on this Santa (the Blue book refers to this as the “chrome” Santa although it is not a shiny chrome; it appears to me to be nickel plating) is in such spectacular condition. There are but a few areas of darkening on the back of Santa, and a very few minor spots on his front. But for those spots, I would have called this a minty Santa.
I took many photos of Santa, so that you can carefully examine him. Santa measures 12″ tall, 5″ wide at the base, and 4-1/2″ deep at the base. The casting is superb. In addition to HELLO KIDDIES!!, he is marked GRISWOLD MFG. CO. ERIE, PA. on one of the side handles. The smaller side handles are marked 897 and 898.
I cleaned Santa and sprayed a very light coat of Pam on him to protect the finish. Santa is ready to help decorate your home for the holidays!
