10 Best Springform Pans Reviews

A springform pan is a fantastic addition to the kitchenware of any dedicated baker! No more worrying about cakes sticking to the side of your pan. Simply release the catch, and the cake is free!

But not all pans are created equal. Here, we take a look at the ten best springform pans on the market today. We review their good – and not so good – points and consider what to look for before you make your selection.

Ready? Let’s take a look at those pans…

1. Cuisinart 9 Inch Chef’s Classic Nonstick Springform Pan

If you’re looking for a springform pan that looks a little different, check out this one from Cuisinart. The finish here is a shade called “champagne”. The attractive tone is somewhere between silver and copper, perfect for any cooks who like kitchenware to look rather special.

It’s sturdy, with the aluminized steel construction giving it a pleasing weight. Take care with the champagne-colored coating, though. It is vulnerable to scratches.

The non-stick coating here is Xylan, and it works very well. There’s no need to grease the sides and base of the pan. Your cake will still emerge in perfect shape when you release the spring.

The buckle is made of shiny stainless steel, and it opens and shuts smoothly. The edges of the pan are rolled, so they’re thicker. That helps the pan to keep its shape even at high temperatures.

This is another pan that’s not entirely leakproof. Standard consistency batter will stay inside, but you may find you get some butter leaking out at the bottom. And if you’re using a bain-marie, you’ll need to wrap the bottom of the pan in aluminum foil.

The good news for those who don’t enjoy washing up, is that this can go into the dishwasher. Although it’s classed as dishwasher-safe, though, we’d still recommend not doing that too often. If you have the time and energy, handwashing will always be a gentler option.

  • Sturdy aluminized steel construction
  • Attractive champagne-colored finish
  • Safe to go into the dishwasher from time to time

  • Prone to low-level leaking
  • That champagne-colored coating is easy to scratch

2. Hiware Springform Pan Set – 3 Pieces

If you’re looking for some different sized options, this set of springform pans from Hiware could be for you. It includes three circular pans with diameters of 6, 8 and 10 inches, giving you plenty of versatility. And they’re the perfect size to create a three-layer cake for a special occasion.

The set even comes with 150 parchment liners. You’ll be able to do a lot of baking before you need to start cutting new liners for yourself!

The pans themselves have a double layer of the non-stick coating. It’s very effective, meaning you won’t lose chunks of cake when you release the sides. You won’t need to grease them before use either, and cleaning is straightforward. Just use warm soapy water and a soft cloth or sponge.

But as with many non-stick items, it’s best to keep these away from the dishwasher. The hot water and strong detergent will damage the coating.

The pans are oven-safe up to a temperature of 450 degrees Fahrenheit. The latches are nice and secure too, so you won’t have any concerns about them springing open before you’re ready.

They’re tight-fitting enough that there’ll be no need to worry about leaks with standard cake batter. But if you’re planning to use a bain-marie (also known as a water bath), you’ll need extra protection. If you do a lot of cooking this way, it may be better to go for a different option.

Overall, this is a good quality set of springform pans offering bags of convenience at a very reasonable price.

  • Double layer of non-stick coating
  • Three different sizes in one set, perfect for three-layer cakes
  • Includes 150 pre-cut liners for extra convenience

  • Can’t be cleaned in the dishwasher
  • Not completely watertight

3. Wilton 4 Inch Mini Springform Pan

These cute little pans from Wilton are great for making smaller cakes. Their 4-inch diameter makes them perfect for individual servings of cheesecake or savory tarts. And they’re great for smaller portions of rich fruitcake. If you’re planning to make small Christmas cakes as gifts, they’d be ideal.

You’ll get three in a pack, each exactly the same size. They’re coated in non-stick, so you’ll get perfectly formed sides when you release your cake, tart or pie. The buckles work well, and the pans stay together securely.

They’re made of steel, so they’ll stand up to repeated use without warping. And if you don’t mind risking it, they can go into the dishwasher – although hand washing is recommended.

There are just a couple of things to be aware of with this set. The first is that the groove where the side of the tin sits is particularly difficult to clean. We’ve heard of people resorting to using a toothpick to get rid of stubborn batter.

And while batter of normal thickness is contained well, they’re not completely waterproof. If you’re using a bain-marie, wrap the bottoms in foil for extra protection.

  • Perfect for individual tarts or mini cheesecakes
  • Effective non-stick coating
  • Can cope with occasional cleaning in the dishwasher

  • The groove where the side of the pan sits can be tricky to clean
  • Not 100 percent waterproof

4. Nordic Ware 9 Inch Leakproof Springform Pan

This design from Nordic Ware is slightly different from many springform pans. Here, the bottom part of the pan extends out beyond the sides, with two raised lips to help prevent leaks.

It has a diameter of 9 inches, perfect for a standard cheesecake. But note that the base is slightly raised, again to help prevent leaking. That means that the depth is a little shallower than some pans – closer to 2 ½ inches than 3. The capacity is 10 cups.

It has a non-stick coating so that your cake won’t adhere to the sides. And you won’t need to line the base – cheesecake will slide smoothly off with the aid of a silicone spatula.

It’s made of steel, so it’s strong and won’t warp in the high temperatures of your oven. It will handle anything up to 450 degrees Fahrenheit without damage.

The buckle to release the sides is nice and secure too. And if you like a little bling in your kitchen, you’ll appreciate the buckle’s shiny silver finish.

We really like the thought that’s gone into the leakproof design here. The raised floor and extended base should work beautifully. In practice, though, we’ve heard variable reports. Some people have found it leak-free, others have experienced the opposite.

If you’re searching for a completely leakproof pan, it’s worth adding this to your shortlist. And the good news is that it comes with a 10-year warranty. That gives you the reassurance of knowing that if it doesn’t work as intended, you can return it.

  • Steel construction for strength and resilience
  • Innovative design to minimize, if not entirely eliminate, leaks
  • 10-year warranty

  • The raised base means this is shallower than some other 9-inch pans
  • We’ve heard mixed reports about how leakproof it really is.

5. Zulay Premium 9 Inch Springform Pan

Zulay’s springform pan has a 9-inch diameter, perfect for making cakes, tarts and pies for the family.

It has a non-stick coating that’s free from BPA, PFOA and PTFE. The coating is applied in two layers for extra resilience. You won’t need to apply flour, butter or oil to the surfaces before using.

The pan is made of a thick gauge of steel, so it’s strong and will keep its shape in the oven. It will withstand temperatures of up to 450 degrees Fahrenheit without warping. The steel core and textured base are also great at helping to distribute the heat evenly throughout your bake.

The buckle is made of stainless steel, so it looks smart and won’t corrode. It opens smoothly and without effort, but will stay securely closed during cooking.

All this and the pan comes with the reassurance of a lifetime guarantee.

So is there anything not to like?

Well, this isn’t recommended for the dishwasher, not even occasionally. Those who’ve tried it have paid the price with a rusty pan. So you’ll need to be prepared to do some handwashing.

And we’ve heard mixed reports about leaking. If you’re baking in a bain-marie or preparing a dish with high liquid content, wrap the base in foil. Better safe than sorry.

  • The non-stick coating is free from PFOA, PTFE and BPA
  • Heavy gauge steel core and textured base help distribute heat evenly
  • Stainless steel buckle opens and closes smoothly

  • Not suitable for dishwasher use
  • Has been known to leak with high liquid content dishes.

6. Wilton Excelle Elite Non-Stick 10 Inch Springform Pan

Wilton’s Excelle Elite springform pan is one of the most cost-effective options on our list. So what do you get for your money?

Well, it’s a generous 10 inches in diameter and 2.75 inches deep. That makes it big enough for pizzas, as well as cheesecakes, tarts or pies for those who like larger portions!

It’s made of steel with a dimpled base to help distribute heat evenly. There’s a non-stick coating too, so you won’t need to grease or flour it before use. And don’t worry that the price means this is a flimsy pan – it’s not. The whole construction is a good gauge and weight.

The black buckle operates smoothly and easily. It doesn’t, though, open up quite as far as some pans.

And for those who don’t like washing pans by hand, this is a good option. It’s resilient enough to cope with occasional stints in the dishwasher. Don’t do it too often though, or it will damage the non-stick coating.

The groove where the sides of the pan fit into the base is tricky to clean by hand. Give it a good soak first – but, depending on what you’ve been baking, you may need to be patient.

  • Good quality construction at a keen price
  • Generous 10-inch diameter
  • Will cope with occasional dishwasher cleaning

  • The sides don’t open up as far as some other pans
  • The groove in the base can be tricky to get completely clean

7. Hiware 7 Inch Non-stick Springform Pan

The second product from Hiware to make our list, this springform pan is 7 inches in diameter. The smaller size means it will fit perfectly into 6 or 8-quart IPOT pressure cookers.

And it works just as well in the oven for a tart, quiche or cake. There, it will cope with temperatures up to 450 degrees Fahrenheit.

It has a dual-layer of non-stick coating. You won’t need to grease or add flour to the sides or base to stop your cake from sticking as it cooks. The coating is food-grade, so you won’t need to worry about chemicals leaching into your food.

An extra bonus with this one is that it comes with 50 sheets of parchment, pre-cut to fit the pan. As well as helping with cake removal, it will absorb excess fat for healthier cakes.

Be aware that the sides on this pan are slightly shallower than some. And while it will hold cake batter without issue, melted butter or other liquids will leak out the bottom. As ever, adding some aluminum foil around the bottom and up the sides will deal with that issue.

  • Perfect size to fit inside 6 or 8-quart IPOT pressure cookers
  • Effective dual-layer non-stick coating
  • Comes with 50 sheets of parchment, pre-cut for a perfect fit

  • The sides are a little shallow
  • Runny liquids will leak out at the bottom unless you wrap the pan in foil

8. Rachael Ray 9 Inch Nonstick Springform Pan

This 9-inch diameter springform pan from Rachael Ray is seriously heavy duty. Its steel walls are thick enough to withstand oven temperatures up to 500 degrees Fahrenheit. And at 3 inches deep, this is a good size for larger cakes.

The whole pan is coated in non-stick, so releasing the pan sides won’t spoil the shape of your bake. And the buckle is coated in bright red silicone. As well as being eye-catching, that means it will stay cool during cooking. You’ll be able to release the spring without worrying about burning your fingers.

Another distinctive thing about this pan is that a proportion of the price goes to a non-profit organization. Yum-o! is owned by Rachel Ray and aims to help families develop healthier eating habits.

So with all these great features, is there anything to look out for?

Well, leaking – the perennial problem with springform pans – is an issue here too. It’s even an issue for a thicker batter. This is definitely a pan that benefits from having a layer of aluminum foil added around the base.

And the non-stick coating won’t cope with cleaning in a dishwasher.

But these are minor niggles for a sturdy pan at a reasonable price.

  • Oven-safe to 500 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Silicone-coated buckle stays cool during cooking
  • The proportion of sale proceeds go to a healthy eating non-profit organization

  • Leaks – even with a thicker batter
  • Can’t be put into a dishwasher.

9. Zenker 10 Inch Non-Stick Carbon Steel Springform Pan

With Zenker’s springform pan, you get a lot for a very reasonable price.

First, there’s the 10-inch diameter. It’s actually closer to 9.5 inches, but still plenty big enough for a large cake or even a pizza. The sides and base have a non-stick coating that’s very effective. And it doesn’t contain any PFOA to leach into your food.

But the most distinctive thing about this pan is that it comes with not one, but two bases. You can choose between a standard flat and a bundt base. The latter has a wavy texture and a hole in the middle for ring-shaped cakes. If you’re looking for both types of pan, this is a brilliant, space-saving solution.

The buckle is made of shiny stainless steel, so you won’t have to worry about rust. And it opens and closes smoothly, without requiring any effort. Cleaning is easy enough using hot soapy water, but it won’t cope with being put in a dishwasher.

The pan comes with a 5-year warranty, whilst there’s a lifetime warranty on the buckle. But, as with so many springform pans, this isn’t completely leakproof. If you’re using a thinner batter, extra protection at the base is advisable.

  • Generous diameter makes this good for larger cakes
  • Choice of standard or bundt bases with a single pan
  • Buckle operates smoothly and has a lifetime warranty

  • Not dishwasher safe
  • Thinner batters are likely to leak from the bottom.

10. Wilton Excelle Elite 9 Inch Heart Springform Pan

The romantics out there won’t be able to resist this cute heart-shaped springform pan from Wilton. If you’re looking to make a cake for a loved one, this is a great option.

It’s a maximum of 9.5 inches tall and 9 inches wide, with the buckle positioned on one of the sloping sides.

And cute as it looks, it’s tough too. Its sturdy steel construction allows it to stand up to the high temperatures in your oven without becoming misshapen. It also allows the heat to be distributed evenly.

The dimpled base works together with the non-stick coating to prevent the bottom of your creations from sticking to the pan. The sides have the same coating too, which is free from the chemicals BPA, PFOA and PTFE. And it’s reinforced, so you can clean it in the dishwasher without ruining it.

You will get a bit of leaking with runny liquids, but it’s nothing excessive. As ever, using aluminum foil around the base will help keep your oven clean.

One thing to watch out for is that the spring release on this isn’t the most durable. We’ve heard of some cases where it will no longer close up tightly after a few uses. If that happens, it’s not fatal – but you’ll need to handle it with care to avoid accidents.

  • Perfect for romantic heart-shaped bakes
  • Sturdy steel construction
  • The non-stick coating is free from BPA, PFOA and PTFE

  • Runny liquids will leak a little
  • The buckle isn’t the most durable

How To Choose A Springform Pan: A Buyer’s Guide

Best Springform Pans

Still not sure which springform pan is right for you? Our buying guide considers the features that will make one of them the perfect match for your home.

What size do you need?

Start by thinking about the size of your bake. For standard cakes, including cheesecake, a 9-inch pan is ideal. 10-inch versions are a little more generous and can also be used for pizzas.

If you’re looking for an individual portion for dessert, 4-inch tins will be perfect.

And if you want to create something a little different, use these measurements as your parameters.

Most recipes will also specify the size of the springform pan that’s required. So if you’ve got something specific in mind, check the recipe before you buy.

What counts as leakproof?

Springform pans are, by definition, easy to release – so making them completely leakproof is nigh on impossible. For most cake mixtures, that won’t be a problem. A small amount of oil leaking from the bottom is all you’ll have to worry about.

But if you’re planning on placing your pan in a bain-marie – that’s a water bath – you’ll need a good seal to avoid the water getting in.best springform pan

Only the Nordic Ware pan on our list markets itself as leakproof. The innovative design is definitely worth checking out – but from what we’ve heard, it’s not perfect.

Even so, some pans leak more than others, so check out reviews before you buy. And if you’re worried about leaks, it’s always a good idea to wrap some aluminum foil around the pan. Cover the bottom and part of the way up the sides to keep liquid out (or in).

Consider cleaning

Finally, remember to think about clean-up. Non-stick coatings are easy to damage in the dishwasher. If you can’t face hand washing, look for options that say they’re dishwasher safe.

All springform pans also have a groove for the sides to sit inside the base. If the groove is very narrow, it can be a real pain to get clean. Again, reviews are a good source of information on this.
